Indonesia's food safety index, as measured in the Global Food Security Index, continues to decline: from 62nd position out of 105 countries (score between 0-100) in 2012 dropped to 74th position out of 109 countries in 2015. BPS recorded, from the number of poor people 28.59 million people, in March 2015, 62.75% lived in villages that were mostly farmers. As food producers, farmers are the group most threatened by food insecurity and economic crisis. This study aims to determine how farmers' strategies in maintaining their consumption and when these strategies can be effective in dealing with shock. The data used in this study are secondary data from the A Baseline Study of Autonomous Adaptation Against Drought Among Indonesian Rice Farmers, CURE survey by Manzanilla, Sajise, Rumanti, & Ocampo, in 2012 in three different places namely Indramayu, Pati and Lombok Regencies The middle. The results of this study indicate that farmers have strategies in dealing with different income shocks. Land area successfully suppressed income shock, then the strategy variable for consumption showed remittance variable was quite effective to stabilize consumption when there was a shock (shock). Another interesting finding is that borrowing money from friends has a significant positive relationship. However, when farmers choose a strategy to borrow from banks it is able to help reduce the consumption gap when farmers face the shock of pest attacks. Then the economic saving strategy actually has a significant positive relationship, other interesting findings show that the strategy of farmers in taking savings actually has a positive relationship when drought and combined and negative when rat pests significantly affect the consumption gap. Then the regional characteristics variable that experienced shock was only Indramayu district which had a significant negative relationship to the consumption gap.
